A long-time political loyalist of ex-Vice-President Alex Ekwueme, Chief Ben Ezeibe, has said Ekwueme’s support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, was based on his (Ekwueme’s) firm belief in Soludo’s ability to render the much-desired service to the people of the state.
He said Dr. Ekwueme, like other political leaders of Anambra State, is convinced that with Soludo a new dawn will emerge in the state to usher in progress, peace and tranquillity.
He added that the people of the state were no longer ready to tolerate a non-focussed leader in the next dispensation.
Speaking with Vanguard in Enugu, Ezeibe, who is also a member of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, stressed that the controversies trailing the emergence of Soludo as PDP’s flag-bearer were uncalled for, adding that the entire people of the state would soon realise why Soludo should be given the chance to govern the crisis-ridden state.
He said: “People keep asking why Ekwueme gave Soludo his support for the race. Just like other contestants, Soludo went to Ekwueme to seek his blessing and he eventually got it. As the founding father of the party and elder statesman, it is a misnomer for people to say that Ekwueme handpicked Soludo.
The leader saw him as a credible candidate and the best material out of the numerous aspirants who could win the election in Anambra State for our great PDP considering the fact that we have a sitting governor from another party. “It is not having a candidate just for the sake of it; we are talking of a candidate who is internationally-connected and one who has vision to take Anambra to the next level.
