ABUJA â€” MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero disclosed, yesterday, that 2,453 illegal commercial vehicles, known as Kabu Kabu, have in the last five months been impounded.
Speaking during the mon-thly FCT Operations Briefing in Gwarinpa Life-Camp, Abuja, Aliero, who noted that they impounded from May 8 to date, said the action was carried out under the FCT Reconstituted Ministerial Task Force on Illegal Commercial Vehicles/Motorcycles (Kabu-Kabu/Okada) in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Minister, who noted that the Ministerial Task Force has so far apprehended 998 commercial motorcycles (Okada) illegally operating in the Federal Capital City (FCC), Abuja, said the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) has within the last three weeks impounded a total number of 122 vehicles for wrong parking within the FCC, while 65 vehicles were also impounded along the Murtala Muhammad Expressway (Kubwa Road) during its exercise within the same period.
According to him, during the period under review, the Ministerial Joint Task Force set up to rid the city of illegal structures, shanties, street hawkers, beggars and commercial motorcyclists, evacuated a total number of 32 vehicles, comprising scraps, accident and abandoned vehicles.
Senator Aliero also revealed that the FCT Administration evicted illegal mechanic workshops in the Federal Capital City, especially the notorious ones in the heart of the city.
