The Executive Governor of Edo state Comrade Adams Oshiomole sent representatives last
weekend to join the teeming community of golfers that graced the official commissioning of the new club house at the Benin Golf Club in Edo state.
The deputy governor Hon. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu who represented the governor at the occasion was joined by golf philanthropist, Olushola Adekanola, Sam Iredia, Tom Ikimi, Perry Osayande, Jackson Gaius-Obaseki among other notable golfers who all featured in the eighteen holes tournament staged for the commemoration activities.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, he said that the government was proud of the development as it would boost the tourism index of the state apart from being a facelift to the Benin GRA where the golf course is located. He also enjoin the club to look at extending their good works to placed beyond the immediate golf playing environment as a Corporate Social ResponsibilityÂ function to the community.
The new club house facility is fitted with modern facilities including spacious lounges for golfers to relax after their rounds and for presentation ceremonies. The locker-room has capacity to accommodate about 1,000 lockers, while the caddie shed is readily the best the in country.
Captain of the club, Dr, Charles Ajayi said the facility was a testimony that the confidence reposed in his team was not betrayed at the fund raising ceremony last year for the Club house.
â€œWe build the facility at N49, 178, 761.00 and we are glad for the immense support we got from donours and club members that were levied and members that served in different committeesÂ at differentÂ times to makeÂ sure this facility got completedÂ and on timeâ€Â he said.
Meanwhile, the event was also spiced with support by members, especially led by Olusola Adekanola to raise funds for the furnishing of the edifice. According to him, the committee has earned respect for their judicious handling of the last funds raised and for a befitting structure that they have out up, it would require an equally befitting furnishing.
