Umuahiaâ€”ABIA State Government has embarked on the construction of N8 billion Leather and Garment cluster in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
The Chief Executive of Futuristic Development Ltd, the firm handling the project, Mr. Chidibere Ukaegbu disclosed that the project would be set up on 19.2 hectares of land, which before now was occupied by the Metrological complex, Aba.
Ukaegbu said that work is already in progress at the site. According to him,Â the project is being built under the public private partnership finance agreement, pointing out that some of the funds had been secured.
The balance, he explained would be sourced locally and internationally. Ukaegbu said that the project, which will have 6,000 workshops, is divided into phases, saying that the company in conjunction with its partners, Nextcon
Business Service Ltd is expected to be completed in 18 months time.
He said that common facilities in the cluster includes a three star hotel, Creches or daycare centres, car parks and garden, as well as eateries, stressing that power supplyÂ would be by Geometric Partners Ltd. He disclosed that arrangement had been concluded between the state government and UNIDO to provide all the needed equipment for the cluster.
â€œThe design is aimed at creating a veritable harmony of structure and environment in a functional eco-system. The concept will create the much needed oasis of order in the chaotic city of Aba ,â€ Ukaegbu said.
