ONITSHA—The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) in Anambra State, yesterday said it has no deal with the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the February 6, governorship election in the state.
Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Anthony Igboka, who spoke with Vanguard, described as false and baseless, insinuations in some quarters that the party struck a deal with the PDP to nominate Mrs Uche Ekwunife, a serving member of the House of Representatives on the ticket of the PDP as its candidate for the 2010 gubernatorial poll.
Undoubtedly, the nomination of Ekwunife has been raising dust, as some members of the PPA have kicked against her candidature on the ground that she was not a card carrying member of the party.
According to them, the PPA constitution provides that for a person to be nominated as a flag bearer of the party, he or she must have stayed in the party for not less than one year, arguing that Ekwunife was nominated the party candidate barely two weeks after she joined the party.
