ABUJA—The Committee of the House on Youth and Social Development, Mr. Depo Oyedokun has declared that twenty-three million Nigerian youth are poorly prepared and unemployable. The lawmaker made the claim Wednesday on a bill to key into every government policy youth development issues.
“Of the over 40 million unemployed youths in the country, 23 million are unemployable and therefore susceptible to crime, hence the need to articulate what could be done to salvage the situation.
“But while the statistic may not be too precise, the number of unemployable youths is so alarming that it calls for greater national concern, with grave consequences on national security and crime rate”, he said. He said the “aim is to create the enabling legislative framework that would ensure the total emancipation of the Nigerian youths”.
Addressing reporters Wednesday ahead of the forthcoming stakeholders Conference on youth scheduled for 26-28 October in Abuja, he said the Bill will also influence the millennium Development Goals [MDGs] among other poverty alleviating plans in the country.

This sounds crazy to me in all facets. How on earth does this man think of such?
Oh! this is far from the truth and can be proved beyond all reasonable doubt. Nigerian youths are well equipped and keen in working but when the work is not forthcoming, And then those with upper hand excel, what do yu expect?
Am not suprised at such a comment from such a man. Probab ly his own people works in banks, oil coys and so he doesn’t care if other youths are employed.
Mr. Oyedokun is selfish. nigeria needs rebranding in all ramifications.
We do not need any Lawmaker tell us about the unemployment virus ravaging this nation because they are part of the government which have injected the virus into the system. We’ve always had greedy leaders who are more interested in enriching themselves at the expense of the masses. Our leaders loot the nation’s treasury and stack it away in foreign countries to do business. They will rather build refineries abroad and employ people of those counties to oversee them rather than investing the money here. Our nation is in a pathetic state. That is why a person like Dangote should be encouraged by government, with incentives, to build more factories across the nation so as create employment opportunities for the unemployed. So far he is the greatest employer of labour in Nigeria. He should be applauded.
They should all be given jungle justice for stealing developmental funds meant for youth empowerment. Infact, the kidnappers should start picking them and their families for Ogboni rituals. QED.
Man enough, you couldnt have argued any better!
First employ the employables, then teach us your wisdom. By the time you employ the qualified youths, those who are not qualified will know the reason why they are not employed.
The question is what makes you Depo Oyedokun more qualified to be in the house than millions who are jobless in your state?
Who is Mr Depo Oyedokun? What does he know about legislating? This is a big problem in Nigeria – we put the wrong people in the right places. If not for bribe and corruption and rigging, how on earth can Mr Oyedokun become a legislator in Nigeria. Where did he get his facts from? Or is he talking for talking sake, Mr legislator you better get your facts right. What have the assembly men done to help solve unemployment in Nigeria? All they are interested in is to embezzle public fund.
Mr. Oyedokun what difference does it make? 23 million UNEMPLOYABLE or 23 million UNEMPLOYED! Where are the jobs?
I guess you just came from hell Mr. Depo Oyedokun? How dare you open that your stupid god forsaken mouth to talk to Nigerian youths? More than 50 million youths are qualified in many fields, and we are ready to work.
