ABUJA—The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) faction led by Chief Chekwas Okorie claimed yesterday that it has received nomination materials, which will enable it to participate in the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra State from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
APGA’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Okorie Onwuchekwa Orji who disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, said materials received by the faction of the party include, the original copies of Forms CF001 and CF002B for the nomination of candidate governorship polls.
Mr. Orji said this development effectively settles the issue of the authentic leadership of the party recognized by INEC based on the undisputed Constitution of APGA registered with the Commission.
According to him, “our great Party this morning in an impressive ceremony at the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission Abuja, received the original copies of Forms CF001 and CF002B for the nomination of our candidate for the 2010 Governorship election in Anambra Stateâ€.
“The APGA team was led by the National Chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie who personally signed the necessary documents for the collection of the forms. This effectively settles the issue of the authentic leadership of the Party recognized by INEC based on the undisputed Constitution of APGA registered with the Commissionâ€.
“We wish to further confirm to the public that the expulsion of Mr. Peter Obi, Chief Victor Umeh and Alhaji Sani Shinkafi from the membership of APGA by the 2009 National Convention of Party remain valid and irreversibleâ€.
“We wish to further affirm that no Court in Nigeria has nullified that highly successful and well-attended Convention. In fact by the operation of law, the interim order restraining INEC from using the outcome of the Convention in future political transaction with the Party has since abettedâ€.
“Our attention is now focused on the process that will lead to winning of the forthcoming election in the State. We do not wish to be further distracted from this challenging task. On the 30th September, 2009, the Anambra State Congress Committee of our Party that will conduct the Party’s primary election in Anambra State planned to hold on 7th October, 2009, will be inaugurated at Abuja immediately after the National Working Committee meeting of the Party the same dateâ€.
