Venezuela could be a surprise — Ugbade

By Solomon Nwoke
CHINA ‘85 Nigeria’s Under-17 winning team captain, Nduka Ugbade, has said that the Flying Eagles opponents in their opening match of the FIFA U-20 World Youth Championship, Venezuela, could be a surprise team of  Group B of the Championship which starts  today.

Nigeria’s match against Venezuela comes up on Friday, but Ugbade was confident that Coach Samson Siasia-led Flying Eagles would do well, but  warned them to beware of Spain.

Ugbade believes that Siasia’s  records in the 2005 edition in Holland and in Beijing 2008 Olympics in China would stand him out from the crowd. He urged him and the team to lift the trophy this time around for Nigeria.

“I know Coach Samson Siasia is a well tested coach with very good experience. I have  no doubt of his ability to build a formidable team. I think that this time he should do better than what he did the last time. This is the expectation of   all Nigerians that I know. They should not underrate any team at all. He has to complete the job by beating Venezuela, Spain and Tahiti to ensure that we come tops from the group.”

Previewing the teams in the same Group B with Nigeria, Ugbade urged the team to beware of Spain. Venezuela play good football, forget the fact that their name has not been heard so much.

“For Tahiti, they are not known in football, but they’re growing. Tahiti cannot come out forcefully as we’ll do.
“And on the issue of Spain, they’re an established football country that has played several World Cups. They are cup contenders.”
