UGHELLI—A former chairman of Delta State Universal Basic Board (SUBEB), Chief Emmanuel Okumagba, has said the Urhobo Political Forum (UPF) was the only political mount piece of Urhobo people.
He insisted that whatever position the UPF held was for the best political interest of Urhobo ethnic nationality.
Okumagba stated this while fielding questions from journalists at the end of a caucus meeting of the group held at Chief Austin Ogbaburhon’s residence in Enerhen, Udu local government area of Delta State.
According to him, the meeting is aimed at addressing some critical issues affecting the Urhobo ethnic nationality, with a view to mapping out strategies on how to address the issues in the best interest of Urhobo people.
He insisted that “UPF had and will always put Urhobo first in whatever it is doing.â€
Chief Okumagba added that the close door meeting was to also draw out a plan on their upcoming rally in Sapele on September 20, 2009.
“You know planning is not done in the public, that is why the executive had to meet in this manner, if not UPF has no secret agenda,â€he said.
Dr. Philomena Oyearone, a former commissioner in the state, said the essence of the meeting was for them to look inward, with view to repositioning the Urhobos politically, reiterating that the UPF was the only sincere political platform of Urhobo Nation.
Oyearone said what the UPF was doing was to put the Urhobo nation on course, and stressed that Urhobo nation would be better placed politically in the next dispensation.
Urging Urhobos to put their money where their mouth is, she said the “UPF remains the only platform through which the Urhobo political and economic interest can best be served.â€
