The four new ExecutiveÂ Directors approved for Union Bank of Nigeria PLC have resumed duty.Â They are Messrs Philip Ikeazor, Ibrahim Abubakar Kwargana, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi and Adekunle Adeosun.
The new Executive Directors bring varied banking expertise to the board of Union Bank spreading across relationship management, investment banking, marketing, operations and information technology, human resources development and risk management.
Mr. Philip Ikeazor, a professional banker with over 22 years experience in the financial sector (largely in corporate and investment banking), was a Director, Wholesale Banking with United Bank for Africa (UBA).Â His strengths lie in excellent relationship management, effective communication and business development skills, with a track record of winning and executing various mandates for big ticket financial transactions.Â He has applied innovation and highly positive attitude to deliver creative Oil & Gas, and infrastructure transactions that were market firsts.
He started his Banking Career in 1990 working for Nigerian American Merchant Bank, then affiliated to Bank of Boston, MA, USA where he trained as a loan officer (1990_1996) and also worked at Merchant Banking Corporation (MBC), then affiliated to Bank Paribas (1996 â€“ 2003).Â A Chartered Accountant and graduate of Economics, University of Buckingham, England, Mr. Ikeazor has attended series of relevant overseas courses and served on various management committees of banks.
Most recently, Mr. Ikeazor handled commercial banking and offshore banking assignments including being the pioneer Managing Director/CEO of Ecobank Kenya Limited, a medium sized commercial bank in Kenya affiliated to the Ecobank Group between May, 2008 and February, 2009.Â He is in charge of Corporate and International Banking, Investment Banking and Treasury.
Mr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kwargana, a consummate banker with over 28 years working experience out of which 23 years are in banking.Â He was a Deputy General Manager and Business Development Manager with First Bank.Â His areas of expertise include personnel administration and industrial relations, internal audit, banking operations, marketing and consumer relationship management.
He has been Deputy General Manager and Head, Foreign Operations Department (2007 â€“ 2009), Deputy General Manager and the Chief Auditor, (2006_2007), all at First Bank of Nigeria PLC and later, General Manager, Operations and Resources, FBN (Merchant Bankers) Limited, (2004_2005).Â Mr. Kwargana also has the distinction of working for Nigerian International Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Citigroup between 1993 and 2004, holding strategic positions including Deputy General Manager and Head, Branch Operations.
