OWERRI-Kidnapping of innocent citizens have continued in Imo state despite the spirited efforts of the state government and law enforcement agencies to contain the activities of the hoodlums who perpetrate this crime.
The latest victim is a United Kingdom-based medical doctor, Dr. Nathan Ibe, who was in his Umuocham Ntu, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area country home to
render free medical services to his people.
Vanguard investigations revealed that Ibe, who came home a fortnight ago to continue his periodic free medical treatment of the ailing citizens, was kidnapped at about 5.15pm, yesterday, along Umuocham-Uvuru-Ntu road on his way back to Owerri.
Narrating his miraculous escape from the grip of the armed hoodlums to his relations and sympathizers, Dr. Ibe said he ran into a two-man armed gang on his
way back to Owerri, after attending to patients in the neighbourhood.
“I met two young men along the road, who blocked part of the pathway, feigning to be repairing their motorbike. I stopped to know if I could be of helpâ€, Ibe recounted.
He said the hoodlums took advantage of his stopping and charged at him with guns, adding that he made a quick retreat but was given a hot chase by the duo, who eventually caught up with him andat that point he abandoned his the car and headed for the nearby bush.
Continuing, Ibe said he was caught, blindfolded, tied hands and feet, and whisked away in his Cherokee Jeep to a nearby compound, where a woman allegedly prayed for them before his kidnappers drove to their hideout.
