In an 18-paragraph statement of claim, Uba said as a politician cum successful businessman, he has never been arraigned before any court of law for any criminal offence nor been adjudged guilty of any crime by any court in the land, adding that by a dint of hard work and prudent management of his resources became “a high flier and wealthy man by any standard of course to the consternation and envy of not a few people, including the defendants.”

The politician, who maintained that he does not owe any bank in Nigeria even a kobo nor has he held any public position as to have meddled with or helped himself to public fund, said his reputation was seriously damaged by the defendants who found themselves in their present positions “not because they are better than other indigenes of the state or otherwise more qualified than them to be there, but rather by chance and divine arrangement.”

He said that in a bid to protect their political future and continued presence at the corridors of power and the National Assembly than for any altruistic reasons, the defendants had aggregated together “even as many of them had hitherto been strange political bed fellows” and made a publication in the THISDAY Newspaper of Friday August 14, 2009 entitled “Press Conference by members of the National and State Assemblies elected on the platform of PDP from Anambra State on the prevailing situation in the state.”
