Sokoto – Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto State has directed the immediate provision of temporary shelter and relief materials to the victims of the recent flood, which swept hundreds of houses and farm produce across the state.
This came as more communities in the state are being affected by torrential flood after about 64 communities in Tureta, Kebbe and Tambuwal local government areas were submerged by flood since August 31, 2009.
According to Wamakko, who gave the directive when he visited the submerged villages of Romon-Sarki, Romon-Liman and Kuchi, “the victims should be given temporary shelter immediately. They should also be given clothing materials, assorted food items and other life sustaining items.â€
He added that the state government would do its best to minimise the suffering of the victims.
“I am here to commiserate with all of you and thank God that there was no loss of any human life as a result of the disaster,†Wamakko said and promised to reconstruct the Tambuwal-Romon- Sarki road, which he said had been cut off by the flood.
The governor assigned Commissioners of Education and that of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Arzika Tureta and Alhaji Bello Aliyu and Special Adviser to the Governor in charge of Rural Roads Maintenance Agency, Alhaji Bello Yabo to implement his directives in the three local governments.
