ABUJA -Â Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwu yesterday explained that the education sector roadmap was basically designed to enable the Federal Government synergise and collaborate with state governments to ensure holistic development of the education system in the country.
Egwu stated this in Abuja while receiving Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State who paid him a courtesy visit, emphasising the need for state governments to partner with the Federal Government to drive the education sector forward.
According to him, “the Federal Government in ensuring quality education as guaranteed by the constitution can only succeed if we are working with the state governments.â€
The global report on Nigerian’s education standard being low, he said, was because some states were not measuring up to their educational obligations.
He said the indices of JAMB, NECO and WASSC results showed that some states were not doing well, pointing out that these will be published periodically to gear up the states to do more for the development of education.
In his address earlier, Yuguda commended the Minister for the support he received from him and the ministry in the establishment of the College of Medicine at the Bauchi State University.
He also expressed hope for more assistance from the Federal Government, especially in the area of teachers’ development, saying Bauchi State is in dire need of teachers.
