By AbdulSalam Muhammad
Kano – The emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero has expressed deep concern over upsurge in religious extremism that is trying to find its feet in the country.
Bayero, who spoke in Kano against the backdrop of recent Boko Haram uprising that ravaged some states in the north, and the last weekend clash between security forces and Shi’ite members in Kaduna and Zaria, tasked parents and guardians to show greater responsibility in the upbringing of their wards.
Bayero, the 13th Fulani Emir of the Northern commercial centre, noted that it is through such action the society depopulate the growing rank and file of extremists.
The Emir, who spoke at the colourful horse race during the Eid Fitr, known as Sallah Durbar to mark the end of a month long Ramadan fasting, however tasked the security agents to closely monitor activities of the group through proactive action.
Ado Bayero therefore prays for peaceful coexistence of the country, adding that with peace Nigeria can surmount obstacles bedeviling its growth in the emerging global village.
The emir also used the occasion to call on the populace to join forces with government to fight polio and other killer diseases ravaging the country, maintaining that it is through concerted effort the country can reduce the rising trend.
