ENUGU – PIONEER National Secretary of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA), Chief Sam Nkire has indicated interest to vie for the vacant position of National Treasurer at the forthcoming national convention of the party.
At the party’s national convention slated for next month, three major positions, which became vacant on account of resignations by the former occupants, including national chairman, deputy national chairman (South) and national treasurer would be filled.
Nkire said it was very likely that the three positions would be filled by people from the same zones where the former chieftains emerged.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu, yesterday, Chief Nkire said the party was not in any way disturbed by the recent exit of some chieftains as the development had strengthened the party.
“The recent media attacks on the party by some of its former members have only succeeded in making PPA more popular in the country especially in the South-East geopolitical zone where membership seems to have doubled in the last month,†he said.
Nkire said efforts had been intensified to ensure that the party maintained its popularity in the South East zone and other states in the country, adding that those who tried to pull the party down have only succeeded in making it more popular and acceptable to Nigerians.
