OWERRI-Imo State Police Command in a swift counter attack, has rescued a 12-year old boy, Bethel Onyekwere, who was kidnapped and locked up by armed hoodlums for nine days.
The Command also smashed another dare devil gang, whose specialty is snatching people’s cars at gunpoint, reshaping them and selling them to unsuspecting members of the public or moving them across the nation’s borders.
Disclosing this to newsmen in his office, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aloy Okorie, said that the driver of the traditional ruler of Ngurunweke, Mbaise, Onuoha Chisom, did the inside job of luring the unsuspecting boy away from the palace.
“Other members of the kidnap gang are Osinachi Opara and Anaezinwanne Kieran. The police went into action as soon as the command got very credible information on the where about of the kidnapped boy and it paid off handsomelyâ€, Okorie said.
After giving a graphic detail of how he was kidnapped, the boy said he was very grateful to God for sparing his life.
Imo police boss also narrated how his men tracked down a snatched car to a panel beater’s workshop in Aba, Abia state, adding that the Command also recovered cars spotting fake registration numbers from the panel beater.
“We have returned the Toyota Camry car to its owner, brought back three movable cars from Aba to Owerri, while two not-too-roadworthy cars were left in Aba and Port Harcourtâ€, he said.
