LAGOS - Policemen attached to Ilupeju division have foiled attempt by a 20-man robbery gang to smuggle a truck load of rice from a company around the area. Consequently, six members of the gang were arrested and the gang’s operational truck loaded with two hundred bags of rice recovered.
Surprisingly, two of the arrested robbery suspects were discovered to be security guards of the company.
Parading the suspects yesterday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, explained that the gang arrived PUSPACÂ International Company warehouse located at Railway line bypass, at the wee hours of Monday.
They were said to have successfully loaded the truck with number plate XB 576 YAB with bags of rice and were at the verge of leaving the vicinity when a distress call from members of a vigilance group around the area was put across to policemen in Ilupeju division.
“The Divisional Police Officer ordered his patrol men who swung into action and later apprehended four suspects,†Mba stated.
Preliminary investigation, Mba said, led to an additional arrest of two of the company’s security guards, adding that two other suspected members of the gang were on the run.
