One killed, two wounded in renewed Amachalla/Ngwo communal clash

ENUGU—A young man, Mr.  Joseph Ngwunwani, from Umuonyike, Amachalla Ngwo community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state, has been shot dead while two others are now lying critically wounded in hospital, following the renewed communal conflict between two villages in the community.

The two other victims from Umuonyike kindred, who the police said sustained serious gunshot wounds in the bloody attack, which  occurred on Tuesday were identified as Valentine Agu and Obinna Ugwu.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident to Vanguard yesterday, said the assailants allegedly led by one Ebuka alias Anigbawa,  fled shortly after the attack.

According to him, the police command had been alerted of the problem in the area following which a team of policemen were deployed to maintain law and order in the feuding community.

He said that while the policemen were still pacifying the people of Umuonyike from confronting Ebuka and his team, who had allegedly barricaded the road leading to Umuonyike, the assailants fired some gunshots from the nearby bush, injuring the three victims.

The victims were immediately rushed to Unity Hospital, Ngwo by the police, but doctors at the hospital, realizing the precarious condition of Ngwunwani, referred him to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu and admitted Valentine and Obinna for treatment.

said the deceased gave up the ghost before getting to the Orthopaedic Hospital, as doctors there confirmed him dead on arrival.
