OWERRI—Arrangements have been concluded for this year’s Igbo Day Celebration organised by Ohaneze Ndigbo, the Apex Igbo Socio-cultural organisation, in Owerri, Imo state capital.
Confirming this in an interview, the Assistant National Secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Eddy Onuoha, said that the theme for this year’s celebration is “Igwe bu Ike†(unity is strength), while the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, will be the guest of honour.
Onuoha explained that the nation stand to gain if and when the federating units are united, stressing that peace and progress can only thrive where there is unity.
“Peace and progress are necessary coefficients of unity. It is only when these three arms are operative that we can build an egalitarian society where everybody will have equal opportunity to excelâ€, Onuoha said.
According to him, the speakers at the event includes Prof Barth Nnaji, Prof Anya O. Anya and Prof Ben Ijeomah, adding that cultural displays from all the Igbo speaking states would form part of the highlights of the day.
