KANO – The Kano State Commissioner of Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba has called on commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Achaba, operating in the state, to adhere strictly to road traffic code to safeguard the lives and property of the people.
Garba made the call when he visited the headquarters of the state chapter of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycles Riders and Owners Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), explaining that the state government had noted with concern the reckless violations of traffic codes by the Achaba riders that had led to accidents.
He warned that if the ACOMORAN members fail to put their house in order by sanitising their means of livelihood, the state government would take all the necessary measures to check the menace.
According to the commissioner, the officials of ACOMORAN should co-operate with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and VIOs to check these excesses.
Dr. Ibrahim Garba then appealed to the executives to flush out under-aged commercial motorcyclists as well as those operating unregistered motorcycles in the state.
