Nigeria ’09: Mobilisation committee holds rally in Lagos, Ijebu-Ode

Public Mobilisation and Awareness Committee for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup swang into action last weekend as rallies were held in Lagos and Ijebu-Ode to sensitise Nigerians on the need to support the fiesta and be homely to all the 24 countries that will start football hostilities in Nigeria between October 24 and November 10.

The committee, led by its chairman, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, held meetings with the Lagos Sub-seat members at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, where several public awareness materials such as T-shirts, caps, fliers and stickers were handed over to the vice chairman of the Lagos Sub-seat who representated Amanze Uchegbulem who was unavoidably absent.

The committee moved to Ijebu-Ode in a convoy where a meeting was held with the Sub-seat members. Receiving the committee, Rotimi George Taylor, chairman of the Ijebu-Ode Sub-seat welcomed the idea of mobilizing the people and promised to give unalloyed support to the committee.
The Sub-seat chairman used the occasion to plead with the LOC and FIFA to increase the number of matches allocated to the Ijebu-Ode stadium.

The Committee paid a courtesy call on the paramount ruler of town, Awujale of Ijebuland, before embarking on street rallies round the town, visit to the main market and parks.

Dr Ladipo disclosed that the committee will move to Calabar and Enugu in a couple of days in continuation of the awareness campaign adding that the Trophy Tour will follow immediately bacause of the limited time to the commencement of the championship.
