NGO expands international empowerment programme for women

AFFIRM Consulting Training and Coaching Services, the only licensed trainer in Nigeria of the Springboard Women’s Development Programme, recently commenced in Lagos the four-day empowerment training.

Ms Zibah Nwako, CEO of AFFIRM, said the organisation which also runs leadership, life coaching and managerial soft skills training and development courses for women, had recently brought Springboard into Nigeria, having had its presence in 27 other countries.
According to her: “Springboard is about assessing yourself, looking inwards, finding out what you want from life and how to go about getting it.

“Springboard is about looking at your organisation, home, health, relationships, the World around you, your community and how you can make a difference.”
Nwako said: “Springboard is about managing stress, confidence building, balancing your home and your work-life; it’s a wholistic programme which covers every area of a woman’s life. If you’re happy at home, it reflects at work and vice versa, in fact you have the ability to affect everything you do.”

She elaborated that the certificated programme was initiated by the Springboard Consultancy in the UK, mainly for career women to boost output at work while keeping the home-front intact by relating better with spouses, as well as for established entrepreneurs or those who wished to launch out on their own.

Mrs Ramatu Bako, a participant, enthused that Springboard had affected her in so many ways and she was confident to begin a new phase in her life.

“Before I joined Springboard, I thought I was an assertive and confident person but after the training I realised that I still had a lot to learn.

“I was very much inspired by the stories of the women in our workbook and the guest speakers at the training, the different challenges they went through and how they overcame them.”

Bako said no woman could go through the training and be the same person as the training had helped her achieve a “calm and mature disposition before reacting to situations and to value her family more.”

So far, 42 women from all walks of life have benefitted from the Springboard Programme in Abuja and Lagos. Training commences soon in Kano. Contact AFFIRM CTC for details on future dates planned in your area, or for similar training for men – the Navigator Programme.
