This yearâ€™s Udiroko Festival kicked off at the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba (Dr) Rufus Adejugbe Adeyemo, on Friday, August 28, 2009. The festival, which is being sponsored by MTN for the second year running, is an annual celebration that brings together sons and daughters of the community.
Activities lined up as part of the celebration, which climax with the grand celebration at the Ewiâ€™s palace on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, include; Ijoko Awon Agba (Gathering of Elders); Ewiâ€™s Football Competition for the youths of the community; Prince and Princessâ€™ Night and Cocktail Party.
MTN sponsorship of the festival is a way of re-enacting its commitment towards uplifting the cultural heritage of its subscribers across the country.
According to Kola Oyeyemi, General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN, the company is supporting the festival for the second year running to further consolidate on its relationship with the people of Ado-Ekiti and the various communities.
The company through its support for the last edition was able to make it a memorable one for the people through various pre and intra-event activities. And it was no doubt a befitting way to extend its support for the communal association. This actually attracted huge commendations from the monarchy and other distinguished sons and daughters of the community.
Speaking on MTNâ€™s effort at sustaining age-old traditions, Oyeyemi explained that â€œin moving ahead in life, we must learn from the past.â€ He emphasised the importance of the grassroots to the success of any organisation.
