Abakaliki – A 19-year-old man, Nnadozie Ezeali, has appeared before an Abakaliki Magistrate’s court for sexually assaulting two infants and stealing money belonging to the mother of his victims.
Ezeali, who is unemployed, is standing trial on a two-count charge of theft and sexually assaulting two infants of the same parents, aged 5 and 6 years.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Nkwagu Igboka, told the court that Ezeali dipped his fingers into the private parts of the infants on August 24, 2009 at their home on Bassey Street, Abakaliki.
“When the accused attempted to dip his fingers deeper, the girls shouted and this attracted the attention of a neighbour, who raised alarm.’’ Igboka added.
He said some neighbours, who rushed into the house, prevented the accused from escaping, adding that Mrs Patricia Nwite, the girls’ mother, was not at home when the offence was committed.
The prosecutor, who accused Ezeali of stealing N31,000 belonging to Nwite, alleged that the accused had been involved in such crimes for a long time.
The accused, who pleaded guilty to the charges, prayed the court for summary trial.
Mrs Nonye Okolie, Counsel to the accused, prayed the court to release his client on bail, arguing that the offence was bailable.
The Magistrate, Mr Sam Ogo, granted Ezeali bail in the sum N50,000 and adjourned the case to September 21, 2009.
