WARRI—THE Joint Union of the three Delta State Polytechnics, situated at Ozoro, Otefe-Oghara and Ogwashi-Uku and Delta State College of Physical Education, Mosogar in Delta State has issued a 21 –day ultimatum to the state government to urgently address the anomalies in pension deductions and payment of certain allowances, among other things in the institutions.
In a communiqué issued after a meeting of the unions at Oghara, signed by the chairman (ASUP), Oghara, Comrade Dennis Agbomah and 43 chairmen and secretaries of the other institutions, the joint union said, “the pension deductions at the said institutions for about two years now should be stopped forthwith and the arrears of such deductions refunded immediately at the prevailing bank interest ratesâ€.
“Since our sister institutions (Colleges of Education Warri and Agbor) had implemented CONTISS, the same gesture should be extended to the four DSHEP schools with effect from January, 2007â€, they said, adding, “the state government should implement CONTISS 15 as approved by the Federal Government and enjoyed in other states’ institutionsâ€, they said.
According to the communique, “the payment of the 28-days accommodation allowance is a must for all the benefiting staff members of all the DSHEP institutionsâ€.
The joint union, however, commended the state government for the establishment of the institutions but said it should adequately fund the development of projects in the four DSHEP schools.
