OWERRI – Federal Government’s Unique Tax Payer Identification Number team has been challenged to evolve a system that would lead to the successful implementation of the electronic system of tax registration nationwide.
Imo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ada Okwuonu, who threw the challenge when she received the team that called on her in Government House, Owerri, said “payment of tax is a civic responsibility.
Revenue collection agencies in the state have put everything in place to improve internally generated revenue so as to cushion the effect of the economic meltdown and reduce over-dependence on oilâ€.
She expressed government’s preparedness to partner with the Federal Government’s team and appealed that necessary infrastructure be put in place with a view to enable the team work and achieve results.
Briefing the Deputy Governor earlier, the team leader, Dr. Audu Amos, explained that they were in the state to enlighten the state government on the electronic system of tax registration.
“The system would among other things, focus on how to increase the federal, state and local government revenue base, especially now that the nation’s revenue from oil sector has been dwindling, coupled with the present global economic meltdownâ€, Amos said.
