Aba- DAREDEVIL gunmen suspected to be kidnappers weekend, unleashed mayhem on residents of Aba, the commercial capital of Abia state.
The gunmen were said to have turned Aba into a theatre of war as they shot sporadically unchallenged, through some major streets of the town.
The joint police and army checkpoints mounted in some parts of the city were said to have been abandoned by the security agents, who were said to have taken to their heels on sighting the rampaging hoodlums.
According reports, the gunmen were said to have kidnapped an unidentified expatriate worker and in their bid to take him away, shot sporadically to scare away residents.
In the last few weeks, Aba has been under siege by criminals, especially armed robbers and kidnappers. Last Tuesday, hoodlums shot for some minutes at the Federal Housing Estate, when they came to kidnap a resident in the neighbourhood. The shooting jolted the residents of the quiet Estate.
The shooting was said to be so intense, that people who had left their homes earlier for work, made frantic phone calls, asking their relations still at home not to come out until the assault on the city was over.
