In a bid to challenge the Federal Government’s inability to provide stable electric power supply and the failure of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to declare state of emergency on the power sector, a developmental pressure group, Concerned Citizens of Nigeria (CCN), is set to organise a mass rally at Maryland junction in Lagos tomorrow, October 1st.
In a chat with newsmen, yesterday, the Co-ordinator of CCN, Mr. Abioye Joshua, said, “Our desire is to create a nexus between spoken words (promises) of our leaders and their actions.
It is not enough to sit down in the comfort of our homes to criticise the government. We have to come out and make our voice heard. Western countries are great and developed because the citizens are conscious of their rights and a leadership that is accountable.â€
Pointing out the alarming level of unemployment, dilapidated transport system, rising poverty level and the nightmare in the education sector, Mr Abioye said Nigeria is now a helpless baby even after 49 years of independence.
While inviting the general public to the peaceful rally, he opined that the best way to celebrate October 1st is to face our problems as a nation.
