GAT: Senate hands off Arik Air, Bi-Courtney tiff

The Senate will not again directly intervene in the feud between Arik Air and Bi-Courtney Consortium over the management of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) at the Lagos domestic airport.

The apparent decision of the Senate to now keep mum over the issue is despite its earlier advice to the Minister of Aviation to suspend the hand over of GAT to Bi-Courtney.

Senate sources told Vanguard that the committee was of the feeling that it should not be seen to be crying more than the bereaved.

The committee, it was learnt, is to now study ensuing developments in the sector and will step in only in the event of a dislocation of peace in the sector.

“Let us watch what will happen within the week as the deed has already been done,’’ a committee source told Vanguard.

“If those who are to suffer the injury do not react, we can as well not do anything as what the committee wanted to forestall was to avoid the possibility of a crisis in the industry.’’

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Mr. Anyim Ude, had last Friday issued a statement advising the Federal Government to suspend the handover of the GAT to Bi-Courtney Consortium.
