Abuja – The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Ayo Adeseum yesterday described the initial agreement between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), as unnecessary. The Chairman spoke at an interactive in Abuja .
Adeseun was responding to questions on the protracted strike of the body of academics in Nigeria and the general state of education in Nigeria .
“There are two forces that are unwilling to bend. The Federal Government knowingly entered into an agreement with ASUU, and an agreement is an agreement, and as a gentleman your word is your bond.
“But the agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government should not have been entered into in the first placeâ€, he said.
The Chairman of the Committee, said the demand for autonomy of Universities as contained in the initial ASUU deal with the Federal Government was a contradiction of sorts.
