The committee of experts on telecommunications and postal services from Nigeria and the Niger Republic on Tuesday began a three day meeting in Katsina.
The meeting, which is expected to discuss issues of common interest in Telecommunications and Postal Services was declared opened by the Secretary-General of Nigeria/Niger Joint Commission for Cooperation (NNJC), Mr Kabiru Garba.
The meeting is expected to examine the state of progress on the digitalisation of Katsina-Maradi link and the performance of the Niamey-Kaduna International link. Other areas of deliberation include the settlement of telephone accounts between NITEL and SONITEL, mail delivery between NIPOST and Niger POSTE. The meeting is also expected to deliberate on settlement of postal accounts between NIPOST and Niger POSTE and make recommendations to the council of ministers. In his remarks on the occasion, the Secretary-General of the NNJC, Garba, called on the participants to ensure that mails arrive their destinations in good condition and in record time.â€œToday, the world has virtually become a global village in terms of communications and doing business is gradually shifting from boardrooms to individual homes, courtesy of teleconference. In view of these developments, the two countries are looking up to you the experts to ensure that their relations are boosted by the current innovative trends in telecommunications. To do this, you will have to be as proactive as ever and assist in bringing the world to the doorsteps of our populations,â€ Garba said.
