WARRIâ€”THE Egbema Gbaramatu Community Development Council (EGCDC) has donated relief materials worth over N6.5million to 32 communities in Gbaramatu kingdom, Warri South local government area of Delta State.
Making the presentation to the various communities, the Chairman of the EGCDC, Mr. Edmund Doyah-Tiemo, said the relief materials were part of the councilâ€™s contribution toward alleviating the attendants sufferings visited on the people in the aftermath of the May 13 militants/JTF clash.
According to him, the food items will go a long way in augmenting whatever is their means of livelihood in the interim.
He said since their return to the village,Â life had been very difficult, as most of them had to start all over again.
He charged the communities to distribute the items equitably to avoid misunderstanding and unwarranted fighting that would lead to further suffering.
Tiemo also enjoined them to always maintain the peace and endeavour to leave harmoniously with all their neighbours.
Some of the communities that got a larger portion of the relief materials are Okerenkoko Zion, Okerenkoko, Azama, Oporoza Zion, Oporoza, Kunukunuma, Kurutie, Opuede Bubor, Opuede, Benekrukru, Kokodiagbene, Macaraba, Ubenfa, amongst others.
The relief materials, which included beverages, toiletries, detergents, clothing materials, comprise 89 bags of rice, 293 bags of garri, 61 bags of beans, 99 bags of salt, 49 gallon of palm oil, 99 gallons ofÂ groundnut oil, 50 cartons of fish, 835 tubers of yam and 56 rams.
Representative of one of the communities, Mr. Mulade, thanked the EGCDC for the gesture and assured that they would be evenly distributed.
He also charged the council to always remember that it would take quite some time for them to fully recover from the calamity brought on them by the unfortunate violence.
