Edo govt to prosecute street traders

By  Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—Edo State government is to arrest and prosecute any person caught in the act of street trading within Benin metropolis.

To this effect, the state government has set up a sanitation mobile court to try offenders.
Edo State Commissioner for Environment and Public Utilities, Prince Clem Agba, disclosed this yesterday in Benin while addressing 480 members of the security enforcement unit recently employed under the Edo Youth Employment Scheme.

Agba told the sanitation members to work towards enforcing sanitation laws by ensuring that all those who engaged in street trading were arrested and tried in the Sanitation Mobile Court.

He said Benin City must be rid of miscreants who want to deface the city, adding that the security enforcement workers would be running two shifts from 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm daily.

The commissioner urged the citizenry to support government policies and programmes by participating in the daily environmental sanitation exercise.
