Nigeria’s Under-17 team have changed their final training destination for next month’s FIFA U-17 World Cup from Germany to England, officials have informed Goal.com.
The team, known as the Golden Eaglets, were due to fly out of the country on Friday for Germany but altered their travel plans after fears were raised over whether a firm arrangement was in place for the team in the European state.
This story is contrary to reports in a section of the local press, which said the Eaglets were refused entry visas to Germany.
A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) disclosed to Goal.com, “The Eaglets have got their visas to Germany. We were not very sure of the arrangements in Germany, which were being done by a Nigerian based there, and that was why we opted for the opening in England.â€
Premier League club Chelsea are behind the team’s final training tour.
Nigeria are the hosts and defending champions of the U-17 World Cup, which rolls out on October 24 in the capital city of Abuja.
The Golden Eaglets are drawn in the first round with Germany, Argentina and Honduras.
