ASABAâ€”MEMBERS of the Delta State House of Assembly has ordered that the Zonal Medical Director at Ogwashi-Uku General Hospital, Dr. Michael Ogbangwo, and a Staff Nurse, one Mrs. Helen OfuagborÂ be sacked for their negligence which eventually led to the death of a patient rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
In considering the report of its Committee on Health which investigated the alleged act of negligence at the Hospital the House, in addition to the sack, also called on the relevant bodies to withdraw the operating licences of the two medical personnel.
The House had on June 25, 2008 mandated its committee on Health â€œto investigate the actions of the Resident Doctors, Dr. Oshile and Dr. Ogbangwo of Ogwashi Uku General Hospital over alleged act of negligence when one Emmanuel Ugbah was rushed to the hospital at 12a.m early hours ofÂ June 12 , 2008 and they failed to attend to him and he later died inside the vehicle that took him to the hospitalâ€.
While testifying before the House Committee on Health, the Zonal Medical Director, Dr.Ogbangwo had denied prior knowledge of the incident. However, during cross examination, according to the committee’s report, â€œhe admitted that he heard people shouting and saw torchlights but did not know they came because of a patient as he thought they were robbersâ€.
