Communities advised against politicising HOSTCOM activities
By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI—AS mixed reaction continues to trail the activities of the HOST Communities, Oil and Gas of Nigeria (HOSTCOM), the people of oil bearing communities have been charged not to politicize operations of the HOSTCOM.
Giving the charge, the National President of Urhobo National Youth Council, Comrade Monday Oyeghe while chatting with newsmen in Ughelli, Delta State yesterday, said HOSTCOM was put in place to serve the development needs of oil bearing communities.
He berated the chairman and secretary of the Afiesere Elite, Mr. Newton Ewhierhurhoma and Mr. Luke Umukoro for their recent media report challenging the decision of the Ughelli North local government area chapter of the HOSTCOM to screen indigenes of oil bearing communities in the area working in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.
According to Oyeghe, the chairman and secretary of the Afiesere Elite were part of the meeting of the HOSTCOM to screen their people working in the commission, and appealed to all those behind the recent media report to stop interfering with affairs of the HOSTCOM.
Oyeghe held that the chairman of HOSTCOM in the area, Mr. Matthew Otuokena has done well as chairman of the body and passed a vote of confidence on him.
On the DESOPADEC Micro Credit Scheme, he said all oil bearing communities in the local government area benefited from the scheme.
