DUTSE – A former  member of the House of Representatives who represented Birnin-Kudu/Buji Constituency in Jigawa State between 2003 and 2007, Alhaji Farouk Adamu Aliyu who was arrested by men of the State Security Service (SSS) has been released.
Confirming his release from detention, his close associate, Mr Sani Garun Gabas told Vanguard in a telephone interview that Adamu was arrested and released by the men of the State Security Service (SSS) who took him to Abuja on Monday evening, adding that his arrest was a surprise to all considering that we are in democracy and the way he was approached by the security personnel.
He explained that though Farouk was released and asked to report back to the SSS headquarters, his arrest would not deter him from expressing his views as a patrotic citizen of Nigeria and as democracy entails, saying the arrest was unfortunate and a threat to democracy.
The arrest of Adamu, according to Vanguard’s finding, came two months after the management of Kano-based Freedom Radio suddenly stopped airing the programme which he sponsored and presented at the last week of every month. It was gathered that the NBC gave the directive as it considered the programme as incitement to public disturbances.
Gabas said the security operatives faulted Farouk for granting interview to one of the national dailies some months back where he requested the intervention of military over the recent political crises bedevilling the nation, which they alleged was an invitation for military coup.
