ASABA- MOTHER of the member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Ndokwa West constituency, Mr. Emeka Ukpe abducted from Kwale last Thursday has been released from captivity while three persons have been arrested.
It was not clear whether the N100 million ransom demanded by the kidnappers was paid or not but family source merely told our reporter on phone today’s afternoon that “she has been released from a hideout in Benin Cityâ€.
The 71-year-old mother of the legislator, Madam Comfort Ukpe was abducted at a petrol station owned by her at Kwale by some gunmen.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Charles Muka in confirming the arrest said that “three self-confessed suspects have been arrested and one of the suspects claims to be a soldier manâ€.
Meanwhile, members of the State Assembly have passed a resolution calling on the State Police Commissioner Mr. Yakubu Alkali to enforce the ban prohibiting the commercial motorcyclists, popularly called okada riders from operating beyond 7pm.
This followed a motion moved by member representing Bomadi constituency, Mr. Reginald Dombraye calling on the state police commissioner to arrest and prosecute offenders without exemption.
The lawmakers in contributing to the debate decried the practice whereby policemen use their motorcycles beyond 7pm carrying passengers.
It will be recalled that Vanguard had sometime ago carried a report on the illegal operation of policemen using their motorcycles on commercial purpose at night in disobedience to the ban.
