Even as unemployment remains a challenge in the country and the rest of the world, Business Solution Development Manager of Systems Applications and Products (SAP Jaco Van Zyl  has disclosed that about 30,000 SAP consultants are currently needed globally in the job market to fill the gap.
Speaking to IT journalists recently in Lagos during partnership arrangement between SAP, the third world largest software company and New Horizons Systems Solutions Limited, he said that the software giant has over 82, 000 customers and more than 12 million software users worldwide, adding that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is her largest customer in the country.
“New Horizons was selected among others to champion its SAP e-Academy and IT certification courses in Nigeria.
“ SAP had already commenced training and would be riding on New Horizons as a partner. The partnership is such that SAP will provide its certification courses using IT experts and facilities from New Horizons.
“The mutual agreement will ensure that interested Nigerians and other neighboring countries are certified to be able to implement SAP applications across its array of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Human Resources, Financials and Business Intelligence and others†he said.
While assuring that the Nigerians stand a chance of running this certification programme at an affordable cost, he said, “It is a global certification: whether somebody gets certified in Lagos, Abuja, Johannesburg, Frankfurt or elsewhere. It is is exactly the same exam, same qualityâ€
Speaking on the agreement, Managing Director/CEO New Horizons, Mr. Tim Akano said: “ New Horizons from now on becomes an SAP consultant in Nigeria and the relationship is based on mutual benefits; that SAP have some expectations from us and as long as we continue to meet these expectations, we are in a kind of marriage for life.
“ For us, bringing SAP into our product portfolio only makes is to be more robust and offers our clients and customers a one-stop centre as far as IT education is concerned in Nigeria.
“The marriage between SAP and New Holizons would afford a lot of people the opportunity of saving cost, if they were to travel outside the country for the same quality of training and certification that would be offered at their door steps.
“ SAP consultants are well paid worldwide and I want Nigerians to get the training and make good money within and outside the country†he added.
Akano enjoined Nigerian Youths to take advantage of the opportunity to get SAP certification, which would help them get the juicier jobs and better remuneration beyond the shores of the country.
