ABUJA—Mrs Lilian Ekwunife, representing Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Constituency in the House of Representatives, has picked the Peoples’ Progressive Alliance (PPA) form to contest for the governorship of Anambra state in 2010.
The most vocal female member of the House of Representatives, who was elected to the lower house on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, however, stressed that she was not yet ready to vacate her seat in the parliament.
The lawmaker, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the House, in a phone chat with Vanguard yesterday, also drew attention to an earlier report, mistaking her for a woman who picked a PDP governorship ticket. She said though they shared the same surname, they are not blood relations.
“I was not the one who picked the PDP form. It am another Ekwunife. I didn’t pick the PDP form, because of the madness in the party. I cannot be part of thatâ€, she said.
Mrs. Ekwunife, who was a bank executive, before she joined politics, told Vanguard that despite her gender and “apparent newness†in politics, she had built economic and social bridges for her constituents and sponsored almost 10 bills in the House in just two years, an achievements she insisted qualified her for the leadership of the South East state.
