The Bayelsa State police command yesterday paraded seven suspects among them two serving policemen involved in last month abduction of Mrs. Rosaline Eruani, mother of the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azipabu Eruani.
However one of the suspects, who is also a policeman, is currently on the run after collecting his N200, 000 share of the N3million ransom paid by the family of their victim to secure her release.
The two policemen paraded before newsmen at the command headquarters included Cpl Joseph Daniel, F/No. 198677 attached to PMF 30 Yenagoa and Ibhisogoun Igiagia, F/No 349412 attached to B Division Ekeki, Yenagoa.
Other members of the kidnap syndicate that was smashed by the Command Crack Squad include Talktom Robert, a relation of the commission said to have masterminded the plot, Disobu Agiagia, Roland Abnara, Oweikeme Oweifa and David Tonde.
The plot to kidnap Madam Rosaline Eruani, according to one of the arrested kidnappers, was hatched in February by a Talktom Robert who was said to have complained of not being taken care of by the commissioner.
Items recovered from the gang den located in the deep forest of Elebele in the outskirts of Yenagoa , where their victim was kept in captivity for 11days include, a Sumec generator, two mattresses, two 21 inch colour television sets and a DVD player.
Though the commissioner had told newsmen shortly after the release of his mother that no ransom was paid but the embattled kidnappers yesterday at the command headquarters said they were paid N3m out of which each of the gang member got N200,000 after sharing the money.
The officer who is currently on the run it was learnt got his share of N200,000 through his wife whom he directed through a text message to liaise with the leader of the gang for the collection of his share of the proceeds.
It was however learnt that one of the policemen, who though was informed by the gang member of the plan to abduct the commissioner’s mother but refused to participate in the crime, was also arrested.
His offence, Saturday Vanguard learnt was failing to report the plot to the police authorities in spite of having knowledge of it. Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Elder Onuoha Udeka said the policemen involved in the kidnap would be given orderly room trial before being charged to court alongside others.
Meanwhile, fourteen armed robbery suspects and two fake doctors were also paraded.
