ILORIN – The authorities of the University of Ilorin have finalised arrangements towards citing the Institute of Education of the University in Kabba, Kogi State.
Towards actualising this dream, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has set up an academic committee to work out the details of the establishment of the institute. Kabba is the headquarters of Kogi West Senatorial District, represented by Senator Smart Adeyemi in the National Assembly, Abuja.
The Vice-chancellor said this was part of the universityâ€™s mandate of contributing to the socio-economic development of not only its immediate community and catchment areas, but also the entire humanity at large.
According to a statement by Mr Dickson Adeyanju, Special Assistant to Senator Smart Adeyemi, the request for the citing of the institute was made by the senator who is the Chairman of Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, as part of his effort towards the upliftment of his Kogi West Senatorial District.
Senator Adeyemi had pledged in his letter of request to give all necessary moral and financial support required towards achieving the request if it was granted.
Inaugurating the Committee, the Vice-Chancellor described Senator Adeyemi as a distinguished Nigerian and a friend of the university.
Reacting to the development, Adeyemi expressed gratitude to the Senate, Council and Management of the university and promised to convey a meeting of all the stakeholders in the Senatorial district to work out the logistic for the take-off of the institute, which will be the first higher institution to be cited in the former Kabba Province.
