Abuja – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) have commenced verification of implementation of the Child Rights Act (CRA) by various state governments in Nigeria.
To ensure a smooth verification exercise of implementation of the Act, the agencies is also collaborating with a child-rights civil society organisation, the Child Rights Brigade (CRB).
The outcome of the verification exercise will be used in the selection of winners of the Child Friendly Governors’ Award to be held in Abuja next month by the collaborating agencies. A statement issued in Abuja yesterday by the spokesperson for the organiser, Mr. Archibong Anderson, said the collaborating agencies have already mapped out plans to carry out verification exercises in the state to verify claims of implementation by the various states.
According to Anderson, “children would be involved in assessing the implementation of the Acts by the state governorsâ€â€.
