Kaduna – The United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) says the trafficking on women and children is the greatest violation of human rights in the world today.
UNICEF said that thousands of women and children are trafficked across borders throughout the world, pointing out that no individual country can curb the ugly phenomenon alone.
This was contained in a good will message read by a representative of the world body, Sharon Oladiji at the opening of a three-day workshop on human trafficking by members of the national task force on trafficking in persons in Kaduna, yesterday.
Oladiji, a child protection specialist at UNICEF at the Finish embassy in Nigeria, said that the country contributed N171 million towards the eradication of human trafficking in Nigeria last year.
“The trafficking of women and children is one of the gravest violation of human rights in the world today. Every year hundreds of thousands of women and children are trafficked across borders,†he said.
