BENIN—MANAGEMENT of the University of Benin yesterday insisted that the Post University Matriculation Examination exercise scheduled for Tuesday next week would take place as scheduled, saying that both the Governing Council and management of the institution had directed that it must hold.
The directive from the authorities is coming on the heels of the decision of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIBEN branch, not to participate in the conduct of the Post-UME exercise.
A statement signed by the Acting Registrar of the University, Mrs. R.A Egborge, advised parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards participated in the exercise, as failure to do so would be at the risk of such candidates.
She also informed the public that adequate security, supervisory and other logistics arrangements had been concluded for the exercise.
According to her, “ management of the University of Benin hereby assures the general public not to panic, as no staff union in the university has the authority to determine when fresh students should be admitted in the university.
“The management of he University concluded arrangements for the Post- UME exercise after due consultations with all the staff unions in the university, and in tune with the actions of other federal universities which had gone ahead with their own Post-UME exercises successfullyâ€.
The acting registrar assured parents and guardians that the authorities of the institution would allowed the candidates who have chosen the University of Benin as either their first or second choice to suffer this new academic session.
