Undergraduate wins N1m in MTN Promo

AN undergraduate of   the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Mr. Ugonna Simon, has won N1million in the ongoing MTN FIFA 2010 World Cup quiz.

Simon, who could not hide his feelings of joy as he relived the harrowing experience he went through before he arrived Lagos from the eastern part of the country on the morning of the event said, “I am so happy to be here at last. May God bless MTN. I am now a millionaire at my age. I hope to make good use of the money.”

Simon was one of the four people who won a million Naira each at the second round of the promo which MTN organised to enrich the lives of its customers.
The MTN Walk-in-Centre, Aromire, Ikoyi, venue of the cheque presentation ceremony was filled to capacity with hundreds of customers, relations and well wishers of winners who came to witness the presentation. Dignitaries from the business and government circles who attended the event were led by the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr. Peter Igho.

Giving an insight into why MTN embarked on the promo, Mr. Kenechukwu Okonkwo, Retention Manager, MTN said that the promo was a way of saying “thank you” to the subscribers who believe in the values MTN cherishes.

“We promised to enrich the lives of our customers in various ways and this is one of the avenues through which we demonstrate our commitment and sincerity to our promise.

MTN plans to make 60 of its subscribers millionaires in 60 days, this means that a winner will emerge every day.  In addition, we intend to sponsor some winners in the grand draw and their spouses to South Africa to watch World Cup matches. Beyond this, we plan to give our subscribers a treat they will live to remember because it’s a whole tourism package in South Africa.”

Apart from the million naira winners, the presentation ceremony also saw the emergence of four plasma TV winners; seven generating set winners; five DSTV decoder + 3 months subscription winners; 10 Blackberry handset winners and 10 DSTV mobile handsets.

Igho, who was the special guest of honour at the event, maintained that his presence was a very significant one because it was borne out of the faith and belief he had in MTN. “From my experience and observation of the brand in the Nigerian business environment over the years, whenever the company makes any promise, it has never failed to deliver.”

It would be recalled that about six lucky millionaires and other winners have earlier been rewarded in the ongoing promo which will last till September, 2009. To participate, a subscriber only needs to text FIFA to 2010 and each SMS costs N50 only.
