By Wole Mosadomi
Minna – Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu has said that the recent cleansing in the banking sector by the new Central Bank Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido is an eye-opener, that most banks are rotten and needed sanitisation.
Speaking when the Director-General, National Pension Commission, Mr. Mohammed Kabiru Ahmed and his management team paid a courtesy call on him at government house in Minna yesterday, the governor said what has happened in the banking sector of recent shows that most banks have been operating a deceitfully in the past years.
He said rather than crucify the crusader of the operation who is the new CBN governor, he needs to be praised and supported to do more of the cleansing.
According to him, “what CBN is doing now is commendable and we want to see more of the financial cleansing in order to have better investment.â€
Aliyu dismissed the insinuation that the new CBN governor was pursuing a northern agenda or has any hidden agenda saying, “people should not see Sanusi’s action as targeting a group or witch hunting but rather, it should be seen as a national issue which needs serious attention for the economy to growâ€.
He noted that the global economy meltdown has opened the eyes of people to the danger inherent in mono-economy and should diversify to other sectors.
