tensified police patrol alongÂ Asaba-Benin highway, especially betweenÂ Okpanam junction and Ubulu-Okiti, armed robbers have continued to terrorize motorists with impunity.
Reports from the area said that the robbers operate in broad day light almost on daily basis.
Last Friday, a group of Government House press corps on its way from Asaba to Agbor to cover the Delta North town hall meeting ran into theÂ robbers.
Some of the masked robbers, who were already robbing motorists, crossed over to the side of the dual carriageway and immediately blocked the road.
The bandits missed journalistsâ€™ bus by whiskers.
Delta state police command had in April this year held stakeholdersâ€™ meeting, with a view to cracking the gangsters.
At the end of that meeting, Delta State Police commandâ€™s spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told Vanguard thatÂ â€œHausa-Fulani leaders had in the stakeholders meetings pleaded to assist the police command root out the Fulani robbers who operate like guerrilla soldiers and dash into the bushâ€.
