Port Harcourt—A gang of robbers in the early hours of yesterday stormed a commercial bank in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, blowing off some sections of the building with dynamites and shooting sporadically into the building.
Vanguard learnt that one of the thieves was gunned down as some security men at the bank engaged the heavily armed brigands in a shoot out.
It was, however, not known if the robbers succeeded in removing money from the vault of the bank.
Omoku is one of the relatively peaceful major towns in the state and the activities of militants have been near zero. It is also a major oil producing community and home of the gas turbines which was started by Dr. Peter Odili’s administration.
The Police PRO, Rita Inoma Abbey, was said to be at a meeting at press time and, therefore, could not offer details on the robbery.
The Joint Task Force in the town was said to have been contacted and was on the heels of the robbers.
